How to program a panel in Cubase SX for
a
Roland SPD11
Total
percussion pad
Updated 11/10/2007 An e-mail I sent to my friend Max from Russia ...
Yo Bro,
I found out how to arrange my spd11
device panel...
First at initial setup , I choose Identical Channel 10 (maybe this
doesn't really make a difference with Individual Channel 10)
Then , I added 64 multiple subnodes to "channel 10 device subnode" and
named the variable "patch" .
At patch 1 , I added the 2 panels and their knobs , now every
subnode has the 2 panels and their parameters . Then I wrote a template
sysex message where I leave the value for the 7th byte open and call it
"patch" . The value for the 8th byte is called "pad" and the value for
the 9th byte is "parameter" .
Like this for the Roland SPD11 : F0 41 09 60 12 00 "patch" "pad"
"parameter"
(0='zero', not 'o')
When I create a new parameter for a knob I
call it e.g. "pad 1 - level" . I fill in the following formula
for the
byte corresponding with the patch like this : "patch-1" . Now I only
have to design one panel for
patch 1 and the other subnodes (=patches in this case) use the same panel
but the result of formula "patch-1" matches with the variable value for
byte 7 : the value for the patch adress that the knob is about .
All thanks to the knowledge that the formula can use mathematics and
variables.
So now I have 128 inspector panels (for each patch or preset a "Pad
Parameters panel" and a
"Patch Settings" panel) .
Every "Pad Parameter panel"
has 45 knobs (individual parameters "level, "pitch" ,
"pan", "fx send" and "Curve" for eight pads + the kickpad of Layer A)
and every "Patch Settings Parameter panel"
has 6 knobs (parameters "Layer
A/B" , "Layer On/Off" , "FX On/Off" , "FX Time" and "FX Level")
I'll add a second "Pad Parameter panel"
to control the sounds of Layer B now and that'll be it. It's been some
study and typing work but it's really great now to have this long
desired control over the external midi device .
I've been reading the Korg's Sysex information already a bit again but
that will be another piece of cake :-p
I should also make some kind of sounddamping floor to place my SPD11
on because the kickdrum hit's its pad downwards on the floor and it
makes too much acoustic noise when I play it , as if I ride my bike in
the woods (what I'm going to do now :-) .
Greetings from the same planet .
Peter
